Why everything else isn't worth it
Abandon the belief that exercise is to burn calories. 1lb of bodyfat is 3500 calories. That's 9 hours of non-stop running. You'll be losing that 3500 passively instead.
The belief that exercise is for burning calories comes from emotional anchoring. It feels like "fat" is burning when your muscles are on fire and your effort is rewarded with endorphins. Just like how you train a pet.
The more you reinforce that emotional memory, the harder it is to stop believing it. You accidentally program yourself to believe something that isn't actually true.
Exercise is actually for giving your body a signal to change. The changes turn your body into a better fat burner outside the workouts.
Then you don't have to chase a treat like a pet who rolled over, you feel and look great all the time regardless.
Lifting builds a passive income body
The changes in your body from exercise should do two things:
1 - make you burn more calories all the time
2 - make you not notice eating less
10-30 pounds of muscle gained burns 0.5-3 lb bodyfat worth of extra calories each month. Most people can make that happen without the scale rising even a single pound.
10-30lbs more muscle gained can also soak up to 100-300 extra grams of sugar instead of storing it as bodyfat. That once in a while slice of birthday cake does absolutely zero damage now.
More muscle makes you insulin sensitive. Eat carbs? No problem, goes into muscles for fuel. No carbs to burn? No problem, tap some bodyfat for energy. No cranky hunger, no crashes.
Stronger people with muscle move more because it's easy and fun. Easily an additional 100 daily calories worth without realizing. That's a pound a month of bodyfat.

The future you has 20lbs more muscle but weighs less than today on the scale. It burns 15-30 pounds fat worth of calories per year passively. But it's also never mad at you for skipping a meal. It'll feel like you're practically cheating.
